I have set the AR account in Customers Branches to the proper cash on hand account for the location that, that customer and branch represent.  It is making the proper post, this will work for now.  I will report back with any trouble I have with this method.

Joe, do you have any java experience?  Or do you know of someone? I have a little POS program done in java that I would like to have looked at.

Regards, Alvin

Thanks Joe

I will grab cvs today. I have not yet gotten to inventory control, it will be next.

I would still like to get an override on the Items GL Sales Account?

In my post POS in Items and Inventory you said "You can set the AR account in the Customers Branch to a cash account instead of the AR account."
this proved to work, meaning that GL  AR account in Customer Branches overrides GL AR account in Items.

Let me know what you think?   Thanks

Rini, thanks for response.

I am going to try to stick with FA, we will all need a pos module.  I have started to do the research.  We may need to pull together a little development money to get it done.

I will keep you up to date on my efforts at my post, POS over at Items and Inventory.

I will do some work on a module later, but in the mean time what would it take to modify the sales script to send the post to cash on hand account, instead of AR accounts when the customer terms is set to cash?

I do not know much about dimension yet, I looked at using them for this awhile back, but I do not think it will work, maybe having attributes would be better. but...

I think that Customer Branches would be a good way to track location data.  If you added more GL accounts to Customer Branches, like Tax accounts,  Inventory Accounts, C.O.G.S. Accounts, Inventory Adjustments Accounts,  then you would post the GL according to Customer Branch, which would be like a Location Branch.

What do you think?

Hello Joe

Thanks for your response.

This will be a problem for me, I will need to tie GL sales accounts to a Location, or as I have attempted, to a customer which would do the same.  Otherwise I have no way to track sales to a location.

Is there a way for me to disable the GL accounts in the, Items and inventory > Item?

What do you recommend here?

I guess the best maybe to have the ability to select (none) as one of the GL Accounts options.

This post should be put under a forum called Sales, Maybe admin will move it for me.

POS is going to take a module. I will get more information about this later.  But if for now we could get a script that would just post to GL Cash on Hand instead of Accounts receivable, it would be good to start.  When we do an invoice, then we must go and pay the invoice, all takes time. Not good if someone is standing there with money in there hand.

We could have a link (Cash Sale) in the Sales Menu, we would just make a customer called Cash Sale and make the sale.

What do you think?

Would it be much trouble to write us a script to do this?

The Sales order, or Direct Invoice script probably should be modified to allow for a cash sale when the customer's Payment Terms: are set to Cash Only, bypassing accounts receivable.

Did you find a solution?

When I make an invoice to a customer, I do not get a post to the the right GL account.  Maybe this is a bug, maybe not, as I am still learning the system.

I have a customer, (Cash Sale GTQ),  in Customer Branches this customer is set to a Customer Branch called (cash sale GTQ) that is set to GL Account, (4010 Sales GTQ), but the invoice posts to GL account, (4000 Sales), my default. When I go back to Customer Branches and look at them, the Customer Branch is there, and when I click Edit the proper GL accounts are there.

Proper Customer and Branch are selected when making the invoice.

What do your think?

Also the javascript pop up calender doesn't seem to work, but I have not looked into it yet.

Thanks Janusz, for your response.

I am now a subscriber to fa_list, thanks.  However...

Guatemalan currency (GTQ) rates has been set manually, this is not a problem.  The best place I have found to get rates is http://www.oanda.com/convert/classic

I did get it figured out.  My base is USD, my foreign is GTQ,  when you think of rates, you think of how much GTQ your USD will buy, which is what you do on the street or in the store.  But FA is the other way around, you must think how much GTQ it will take to buy your USD,  Example: 1 USD = 7.86790 GTQ, the rate on the street. 1 GTQ = 0.12710 USD the rate you would use for FA calculations.  Someone should add this to the wiki.

It would be nice to get the currency symbol to display on the screen and reports.

Thanks for the help.

I need to understand how multi currency calculation are done?

Can someone help?

Just grabbed your files from cvs, followed the normal upgrade outlined in the update.html

but I just get a blank screen, no errors, no login, just blank.

What do you think?

local install, using wamp5

After updates out lined in post "Items and Inventory > no price in >Sales Invoice >Items"

I go to >Sales >Direct Sales Invoice, and my customer info is there, my Item Description is there, but the price is wrong.

My customer is in GTQ currency, and the Inventory Item Sales prices in USD. Home currency is USD, Price List = Retail USD

Sales Price = $34.95 USD Price on Invoice 4.62, No currency symbol shown. 1 GTQ=7.5630 USD

What do you think?

I would like to see an internal forum that could be used as an info base. Like when Purchasing make a PO, and Receiving, and Sales wants t know the status of it, or events, and other things going on in the company.

After login, you would get a front page with latest post etc.  It also would be nice to maybe get a calender, to do list, with some user settings, etc.  Maybe a php mail box system.

Just a bit of group wear.

No I was just running the beta release, with "Base for auto price calculations:" set to Retail, however a got a snapshot from you yesterday and loaded it.  I got some errors that I sent to him.  But as you suggested I went to >Setup >Company Setup and Retail was not selected, I select, >Save and get this error:

DATABASE ERROR : The company setup could not be updated
error code : 1054
error message : Unknown column 'base_sales' in 'field list'
sql that failed was : UPDATE 1_company SET coy_name='Almacen Naval', coy_no = '00-00-00', gst_no='00-00-00', tax_prd=1, tax_last=1, postal_address ='N/A', phone='', fax='', email='', coy_logo='', domicile='', use_dimension=1, no_item_list=0, no_customer_list=0, no_supplier_list=0, custom1_name='', custom2_name='', custom3_name='', custom1_value='', custom2_value='', custom3_value='', curr_default='USD', f_year=1, base_sales=1 WHERE coy_code=1

Let me know what you think?

I also would like an import feature, Bank of America offers your file as csv, and more. maybe other banks do as well.  Many transactions are done at the bank level, bill payments, and transfers, all done online.  Once a month you just import instead of entering them.

csv should be pretty straight froward.

This is probably not a bug, but when you hit get rate for Honduras HNL or Guatemala GTQ you get 0.00, however the EUR works.

It would be nice to have these other currencies?

Using 2.0 beta

I go to >Sales >Direct Sales Invoice, and my customer info is there, my Item Description is there, but the price is not.  I hit Add Item and still no price.

My customer is in one currency, and the Inventory Item Sales prices in another.

What do think I have missed here?

Can I use cost centers as sales locations, to track the sales and expense of a locations separately?

Can I use frontaccounting for a retail operation with two location, doing sales in two different currencies, with the ability to track sales income, sales tax and expense per location. Or maybe running two companies from one GL?

Please let me know what you think?

Thanks, AM
