I tested this on the 2.3 ver of the test site. I changed the due date and then tried the del. It didn't work earlier this morning. After I read your post I logged back in and tried again, checking to be sure the 0 stuck. It worked fine. I am wondering if that changed filed only gets read when logging in.
What I did was try it on local box saw the 1 in the setup, changed to 0 and tried again. Was still adding day, went to test server as said above. After it worked on test server, tried my local again and it works. That is why I was wondering if just read file on log in as that was the only thing I did.

I have set Delivery Required By: = 0 in setup -> system and general gl setup. But when I set a date in the delivery, the invoice due date is incremented by one day. I need it to be the same day unless I change it. Is this a glitch or something I am doing wrong?

Joe: I will try that over the next few days to see how it works.
Janusz: We do mostly B2B. I would guess about 90% of our quotes are to businesses and the large orders are almost done on quotes usually with some special details from deliver to how the items are packed or who does the forewarding.

What I need is to be able to enter the cust name, addr, ph, fax, email so I can get him the quote fast before he buys from someone else. We do maybe 8 or 10 of these a day and it would sure be nice to do them in FA in some fashion so we could just run them in as SO without having to retype anything.
I understand this requires effort. I just thought this was something many folks need to do.

Creating a dummy company doesn't help, does it? How do I send the quote to the person who wants the quote? Am I the only person who needs to send out quotes to get business? I sure prefer not to put lots of companies into debtor_master who are not customers and may never be.
Most of the quotations we do are to non-customers (we are hoping they will become customers). When i try to do a sales quotation, I have to enter a customer's name, but the person I am quoting to is not a customer and I really don't want to add them to debtor_master as we make a lot of quotes that never turn into sales. Is there some way to just type in a name, address, email to do a quote?

This is a big help. I needed to change some descriptions for items. Now I know what table/field I need to change. Wish that the long_description was available item by item, then would not have to mod the desc field.
Your answer here might be worth putting into wiki. Very clear and direct.

To test the description, I truncated my item_code table. In items and inventory, I can see the description of an item and can edit it. In purchases, I find items so can buy them.
But when I go to sales and try to enter a SO, it does not find any items at all, when I do a search using *, no items are found.
Do I have to have each item in stock_master also in item_code?

What is description in stock_master used for?
How might long_description be used, where is it displayed?

On sales orders, deliveries and invoices, where does the item description come from? I thought it was from the stock_master table but it seems to be from description field in item_code table. Is that right?
If so, what is the description/long_description in stoc_master used for?

joe: Why is the permission of pdf_files directory 777? I wonder how it is that the pdf gets written to my ~/Download directory? I see that the last couple of SO's I have printed are also in the pdr_files directory. Over the last couple of weeks I have printed at least 25 (I am testing the zen_import) and there are only the 2 that I did today.
Joe: There are no pdf files in my dir: /company/0/pdf_files/. They are being written to my ~/Download dir (I am using Ubuntu). My printing profile is set to browser printing support.
Is it possible to just display a report to the computer screen rather than a pdf file?
Where is the default dir defined for saving the pdf files?
I am still interested in knowing where the file name is set.
Is it possible to make the default dir where pdf file are set to be any where on the hard drive?

The contact_email on a sales order has NULL and I tried to find out how it is supposed to be populated. I looked at function add_sales_order(&$order) in sales_order_db.inc and didn't see contact_email so how is it being entered into the table?
One other quick question, where/in what file is the sales order pdf report file name created?
I read another thread that said something about the random naming was for security. I was wondering how that makes what secure.

When do you plan to switch from mysql to mysqli/prepared statement? PHP is clearly depreciating mysql in favor of mysqli or pdo.
Is it possible to be able to set default value on select boxes, eg, under Sales, setting Payment to a certain account or Shipping Company to the usual shipper or Deliver from to usual location? That way most of the time when entering a SO user does now have to change any setting from the usual unless needed.
It seems that to make Sales Quotation, I have to have the company in debtors_master. That really clutters up that table when many quotes are made and then the company is never an actual customer. I think a quote should be able to be made with out creating a new debtor.

The search in Items and inventory has the same situtation. Probably others as well. I have not looked but can they all be fixed in the same manner? It would also be nice if the search results for customer included the debtor_no. Wondering if instead of the query populating a dropdown, maybe it could open a new small window similiar to F2 key, then select from that window. Give the advantage to show more fields and even being able to sort on a column. I do this on some searches on my website. Idea is make it very easy to find the info you need when an unhappy customer is on the phone waiting for you to come up with info about his account and anything to speed up the entry of data into database.

Maybe Mantis is not underrated, but unavailable. I have tried 3 different time to register and have yet to receive any confirming email from Mantis. That as have over several months time.
On the search, an F-key available from any page that has text boxes for various fields for several table would be nice. Search for customers, vendors, branches, items and perhaps other things would easily go on one page.
While on searches, when I search for a customer,(for example to write a sales order) and the result set is only one customer, the text box displays New customer". It should show the results of the search ordered by what ever, not "ew customer". That just adds to the keystrokes necessary to enter the SO. It is all actually a bit disconcerting to do a search and not see a result. That is not the way most search work.
I have some questions about version 2.4, but can't figure out what forum to start the thread.

The short name field was there when we orginally started this thread.
The problems are the same now as a year ago.
I think the search needs to be expanded to include at the least phone number, email address(isn't it unique), and zipcode.
What would really be great would be a function key that can be hit that pops up the search fields.
BTW, what function keys are used in FA? I could find no listing of them.

Joe's reply: We will try to implement this in 2.3.2. As you suggest we will try to also search in address info and phone number.

Hmmm, decided to turn off the search, update, then turn it back on, update again. Search works now.
I just went to 'Customer and Sales Reports', then 'Customer Balances' and tried to filter for a customer. The search does not work. This is after updating to the fix listed above. Isn't search supposed to work here?
