Topic: Importing from DacEasy

First I need you to know I'm on a time crunch.  I had been using DacEasy on DOS but it quit working after 2010.  Being the world's best procrastinator my accounting is years behind.

I would like to know if it is possible and how I can import my chart of accounts, account values, customers, vendors, etc.

I'm not very experienced at this stuff but any help in this regard would be better than printing it out and typing in by hand.

Thanks so much for any help you can give.

Re: Importing from DacEasy

DacEasy (v9 and v10 to 14 and Utilities) when I last used it over 2 decades ago was using dBASE (.DBF) files. It should be trivial to export them out into Excel / CSV files before importing them into MySQL directly. DacEasy last used BTRIEVE database for DOS that is akin to MySQL's ISAM (Indexed Sequential Access Method) DB Engine.

The manual for DacEasy v14 is available here and it's list of files and what they are for is listed here.

Commercial products to convert Btrieve DB to MySQL DB are:
Mertech Btrieve to MySQL
FullConvert Enterprise - abandoned / unsupported / lost on the web
Nelson Software Tools

BTrieve itself is now Pervasive SQL (PSQL) - MySQL Discussion thread for conversion.

DacEasy is now part of Sage and they do not generate Activation keys for these old versions when you need to re-install. Provide feedback if this works.

If you are interested in still using DacEasy, it can be setup in a DOS emulator and run on the newer OSes along with an LPT2USB Driver for them.

Capturing LPT1 is also possible.

FreeDOS supports USB Printers.

You can also run DacEasy in a DOS VirtualBox / VMWare Player / QEMU Emulator.

DOSBox too can be used.

Re: Importing from DacEasy

Thank you for all the info.  Using my existing DacEasy is impossible as it doesn't work after 2010 (evidently coded EOL).

I can get the CVS files through the printing dialog. I'm not sure if there is a separate export dialog anywhere but will look tonight.

How do I import this into front accounting so it can be used?  This is not trivial to me.

I will get MySQL Workbench and look at the Database Migration Wizard and see if it will be useful.

FYI I was using DacEasy in DosBox on Linux.

Thanks.

Re: Importing from DacEasy

Once you get the CSV of the customers and assuming you are using the latest FA v2.4.3 and the sql/en_US-new.sql Chart of Accounts, manually enter one typical ustomer and see the diffs in the before and after backups and construct your sqls accordingly. This will need to be carefully done in a cloned container and then migrated to the production install. The same can be done for vendors (suppliers), items (inventory), etc.

Try to revert to an earlier version of DacEasy before Sage took over. You will most probably find a non expiring version.....MBAs tend to enforce migration by such blackmail tactics - they probably cannot survive in a non-monopolistic environment - they will however wax eloquent on the virtues of their idea of a free "market economy".

Re: Importing from DacEasy

Just restating what apmuthu said, follow the instructions by  trafficpest to import the customers.

Re: Importing from DacEasy

I feeling rather overwhelmed.  Can we start with the importing my chart of accounts or complete general ledger?
Here is a sample of the listing copied from an Excel 5.0 output from DacEasy 8.0.  reverting back is not possible.
You will need a fixed font to see this.  If I import the general ledger would that include the chart of accounts??  Sample of that follows from the trail balance.

Re: Importing from DacEasy

Mysql Workbench has a migration tool but requires an "ODBC" driver for the Btrieve source file to be installed.  Can anybodt point me to the driver and instructions for installation and use?

Re: Importing from DacEasy

Making an Excel / Access table with the above data is trivial. It then will not need the BTrieve ODBC Driver and use the native MS Jet ODBC Driver for Excel / Access.

FICA (Employee and Employer Witholding Tax) - US - Federal Insurance Contributions Act
FUTA (Employer Only) - US - Federal Unemployment Tax Act
SICA (Employer Only) - US - State Unemployment Tax Act

So much for ease of doing business in the USA! No wonder they find it attractive to import from the rest of the world! All they need to do is print more money and run up trillions of dollars of debt.... Every country should follow suit - then there would be no one willing to export to anyone....in others currency! Then no more multi-currency in FA or no FA at all!

Re: Importing from DacEasy

I'm afraid I don't find this trivial.  I'm going to need step by step instructions or a link to docs that do.  I've never worked with MySQL before or any data base and the last time I set up an accounting program was 25 years ago.

Perhaps I and FA are not a good fit?  I may need something more user friendly.

Re: Importing from DacEasy

Try the SQLyog community edition for a start - all Windows GUI for the MySQL Database.
Direct import from CSV and table creation / altering too in the GUI.
The "History" tab will show the SQLs used.

https://github.com/webyog/sqlyog-commun … /Downloads

Everyone starts off not knowing MySQL and assuming FA not to be a good fit but in time you will find is as user friendly as possible as any web app can be. Scout around for anything more user friendly and let us know so that FA can catchup as well.
