Topic: Handling items with dimensions

I have a customer that sells items by custom cut sizes.  Steel bars are stocked in Feet but need to be sold in PCS @ # of Ft and # of Inches based upon the customers requirements.  The same scenario for area items, which would be stocked in Sq Ft. 

1) Does anyone have knowledge of current users handling similar inventory type items in a steel warehouse or service center environment?

2) Would anyone be able to estimate the difficulty in modifying FA to enable the Inventory/ Sales Order / Purchase Order modules to accomodate this type of requirement.  I know the details provided here are less than specific but I was hoping to get some basic feedback from those of you who know FA.

I guess you use the assemblies to simulate different units. Just make an assembly with one BOM item. Try on the Training Co.
