Tabs and Cart

I'm working on a textcart module, allowing to convert cart (sales order, purchase orders, item transfer etc ) to text (in both way).
Everything is in a module except the GUI bit. I had to add to modify FA to add tab so the user can choose between a normal cart or a text one.
This means that my module is not really an independant module but more a extension of FA.
Is there a way than I can achieve that without modifying FA ?

What I see is either , the front accounting team incorporating my module in FA (I doubt they will) or incorporing something similar to my FA patch allowing extension to create tabs corresponding to different views of a cart.

(I'm wondering too when the release 2.4 will be out ? Will have I to rewritte everything ?)
