Hi,
I too found the lack of a discount troublesome.
The solution I found was to create a new Item called Discount and enter a negative price for it.
Everything worked fine this way.

Hi,
Is it possible to create an item that is a service and attach a unit price to it? e.g. €25/hr
This would save entering the unit price every time that type of service is used, also saving looking up the cost.
For example a business could have a number of different services that are charged at different rates per hour.
How can this be achieved?
Thanks
Carmelo
Thanks for the information, Farhaj. I would be prepared to examine your work if you send me the theme.
Hi Farhaj,
Are you prepared to share the themes with us or not?
What's the use of asking us what we think if you do not respond to our requests?

We have a process where a number of sales persons visit clients and collect orders.
The orders are entered as Sales Order Entry. These sales orders are passed to the store where the orders are prepared for delivery.
It so happens that sometimes the person building the delivery, picks the wrong items. The mistake is only noticed after delivery is made.
Is there a system where the item codes are scanned and compared to the sales order so that such mistakes are caught in time?
Is this possible with FA?
Thanks
Carmelo
Thanks apmuthu, but the SQL command should be like the one below:
ALTER TABLE 0_sys_prefs MODIFY value TEXT;

Thanks.
You guys find solutions for everything

Thanks Joe.
The 'Legal Text' is too short. We need to include the following text on each invoice:
Unless payment is received in full within the agreed credit terms, interest shall be charged in accordance with the Late Payments in Commercial Transactions Legislation LN272 of 2012. The current rate of interest as stipulated by law is 8% above the ECB intervention rate.
The Company shall process the Personal Data found herein according to the Data Protection Act and according to the principles, ethics and guidelines of The Malta Association of Credit Management (MACM), of which the Company is a member.
In case of any default by the Client in the fulfilment of any terms of this agreement, the Company has the right to pass on any information or references contained herein to MACM as well as to any third party legally entitled to receive such information.
Any ideas?
Thanks

Hi,
I have several companies using one FA. We need to place a message on the invoices at the bottom just around the Bank Details. Is it possible to have one field in the setup of each company that would allow the user of the company to type anything they want to print on the invoice?
Some users want to put advertising messages, others seasonal messages and yet others some other information.
I geuss this change would go in 2.4 as it would require a database change ... additional column.
Thanks
Carmelo
Excellent, thanks for the info.

Many accountants request that at a certain point the previous month is closed so that reports can be issued.
When a month or a period is closed, no more transactions in that period can be posted.
Is there a way to close a month or a period in FA?
If transactions are allowed to be entered in a period that have had reports issued already, would render the reports outdated and useless. Therefore closing periods increasing report integrity.
Thanks
Carmelo
Thanks Joe for the pointer.
Is there an easy way to find the invoices and receipts associated with the TAX report? Even those that were not included in the last period and therefore form part of the current period?
Thanks
Carmelo
Hi,
How does one flag or mark as included, transactions on which VAT or TAX has been paid to the VAT Department?
The situation is as follows:
Let's say we have to report and pay VAT on a quaterly basis. We start with period Jan-Feb-Mar. All transactions for this period are entered and the VAT report issued. The return to the VAT department is filled and payment made.
A couple of days later an invoice is received that is dated in March. This invoice must be included in the next period so that the VAT is refunded or paid. But when the report is issued at the end of June, the late invoice won't be included.
Is there a way to flag transactions that have been included in VAT returns so that at the end of the next period, those unflagged transactions are included in thenew report?
I hope I explained this well.
Thanks and regards
Carmelo
The above discussion is very interesting. If an import function can be created in FA mapping a cvs file to suppliers, customers, gl, etc then such a function would be useful for any import from any other accounting package. Personally I am more interested in importing data from Sage Line 50, which like QB can export reports into CVS formats.
Should such a function be built then we could have voluntiers map cvs reports from different packages to FA. One function for all.

Thanks Joe,
This is a nice trick. Saves a lot of headaches.

Joe, I wish that was the case. As the emails are sent from the server (using mail() in php), the email client on my computer is not in any way involved. Mails are sent as soon as the send email is clicked and the only response one gets is that the email was sent.
If adding my suggestion above is too complex, perhaps a log of sent emails could be built.
As always, thank you for a super application.

When creating an item, there is a checkbox that allows one to edit the description of the item.
This works fine in Customer Invoicing, but does not work in Suppliers.
Is this by design? Many times I find myself requiring a change in the description. It would be nice to have it working under suppliers as well.
Thanks
Carmelo
Yes that's right, but then you would have to do it for every client/supplier.
It's nice to have a default email address where all emails sent out are copied to.
Carmelo
When using email to send invoices or other documents to clients, no records are kept of such an event. If a client claims that they did not receive the email, one wouldn't be able to say that it was sent to this address at this time.
A solution would be to have all emails sent also sent to a particular email address. This email address could be the email address used in the Company Setup page, but an option for a different email address would be better.
Thanks

from FA wiki
Create Companies.
Never use the same database for two or more companies unless you really trust every admin on all companies. As Backup and Restore area is not reserved for site admin, but available for any single company admin, tables which belong to other companies can be overwritten accidentally or intentionally without warning.
I understand your suggestion for assigning a new database to every new company.
How about the Training Co., which you suggest to keep for testing purposes, after some testing then I feel confident and I start the Real Company ... Should that be in a different database or you think it can share the same database with the Training Co.?Many thanks
To play it safe, I suggest a different database for each different company. However, if you are the only one using FA on your setup, then you might opt to use the same database.

Firebug? That's a good idea.
Thanks

The problem with compression is that it leaks information that can be used by a third party.
We are creating a PCI DSS Compliant site for Front Accounting as we want to protect the financial information of those using the site. Removing compression is one of the requisites. See the following:

Hi,
I am trying to increase the security of my site hosting FrontAccounting. One of the security requirements is to remove the compression (gzip) of the site.
However, as soon as I do that, the third column in the reports section of FrontAccounting, seizes to work.
Anyone knows the reason for this?
Thanks in advance
Carmelo
The same would apply to different databases (assuming db names too are sequential / guessable) if permitted for the same db user. That is why the db user too must be different for each company's different database.
I have tested with different db names and the fact that the user tries to restore to his own database does not affect other companies installed. And that is why I urge one and all to have a different database for each company.
To be more clear about this:
When a user restores his database backup, FA connects him to the database that is indicated in the config_db.php file for the company he has logged in. Therefore, although the restore would be successfull, it would not overwrite other companies' data, as these would be in different databases.
As for database names being guessable, that is exactly the reason why I suggested the code in the beginning of this thread.
Cheers,
Carmelo
