This has now been committed to the unstable FA 2.4 repo but not as yet in the FA 2.3 stable repo. Hence in the FA v2.3 repo, it will not be translatable still.

This will also need to be followed with each language translation being affected in the official pkg repo.

Have created an account for FrontAccounting on Transifex for public viewing - interested translators can request for write access.

Tested out GlotPress and it has the same UTF-8 only limitation although it allows for downloading .mo files. It can run as standalone on Windows XAMPP - just tweak the directory settings by replacing "\" with "/".

ScriptBASIC will then be replacing the entire PHP code with it's "compiled" version. A sort of a Desktop FA that has been done using  PHPDesktop earlier. FA updates would then need fresh compilations - nice business sense to sell "service"!

Just tested Transifex:

1. Help pages are outdated.
2. Do not allow downloading of .mo files - no conversion.
3. Needs a desktop client and then use CLI to pull/push.
4. Free for Open Source projects.
5. Supports only UTF-8 for upload and download currently.
6. Bulk Review of Translations does not filter reviewed strings on clicking "download of reviewed strings" link.
7. Displayed languages not sortable (stays in default order of No. of UnTranslated strings, Language Name, Lang Code).
8. Resource wise languages listing not available.
9. The translation pairs are arranged in alphabetical order of the original strings and not in the order of the original resource po file. GlotPress maintains the order of the source resource and preserves the original resource file line numbers in the comments that precede the translations also.

Then would it mean that the proxy is to be used by the Apache conf file to manage folder paths selectively to enable sbhttpd to partake of port 80 as it's publicly accessible port and for PHP to partake of the real proxy port ( say port 8080 ) in it's interaction with ScriptBASIC?

@John: Thanks for the detailed info on ScriptBASIC. Just trying to find what part of C interfacing with FrontAccounting would need to justify using it.

MySQL interaction in a thread safe manner is the current way FA works with the MySQL server and that is as close as we get with C interaction with PHP and possibly no worse than ScriptBASIC. Hence any ScriptBASIC interfacing on the database side will not provide for any significant advantage especially if some form of cachiing (APC, memcached, etc) is used.

Interfacing with sensors for embedded applications where no php extension is available may be a use case for using PHP with ScriptBASIC.

If the recommended way to use ScriptBASIC is as a proxy to Apache and Apache runs on port 80 and the proxy runs on say port 8080, must the client then use port 8080 to access the application?

The idea is to make a highly simplified payroll module in FA  to hold employees particulars and payslip tables with a defaults table for the ensuing month field defaults. The Country / State specifics can be used to extend this module.

@roymagura: it would be appreciated if you provide your code for the community to develop and maintain and possibly integrate into later versions.

Hence ScriptBASIC in it's final use case would be to replace the entire Apache/PHP/MySQL stack with a pure ScriptBASIC compiled (or intermediate compiled) alternative and no advantage in using both together.

What is it that can be done in ScriptBASIC that cannot be just as easily done in PHP?

The reason why PHP in general and FA in particular became popular is that it is in open text form and loosely typed and easy to program for the non programmer. "Protecting / Obfuscating" code will mitigate against the userbase. Proprietary code and compiled applications can hold users to ransom. Those who wish to retain independance in the code they use will run away from it! When acceptable alternatives like ScriptBASIC arrive, there must be a compelling reason to undertake a fresh learning curve and migrate to it.

With the arrival of Triggers, Procedures and Functions in MySQL, most PHP code can be replaced by them in getting logically directed computed storage done.

As your sbhttpd is a proxy, does it still depend on the availability of a real web server like Apache?

Please post some php source interacting with ScriptBASIC source code.

When doing so, he can refer my repo for many fixes to Charts (en_GB) and extensions (zen_import) and missing extensions.

Version bumps on addons with no changes in content should be avoided.

Whilst FA is interpreted, executed and presented to the Web Browser (not necessarily on CGI), how would we get to use ScriptBASIC with it? Please provide an example of it's usage with PHP (non CGI).

If you model it on the en_US-new.sql then changes will be comparable.

The current Annual Balance Breakdown Report pkg in the official repo has not been updated as yet despite a lot of version bumps in the last few times ending on 2015-10-25.

There is nothing proprietary in heads of accounts and classifications - suit yourself. FA has it's own table structure anyway.

How do you propose to handle the case of differing VAT rates for multiple items in a single invoice - you will just get a consolidated value? Is it that it should be displayed dynamically (using a variable in the report to accumulate it) or to be taken from some table later?

There is atleast 1 thread in this forum that might assist you in it's backport from FA 2.4.

Attached your screenshot here as well.

You will need to activate it for the company you want it in.

Have a look at the theme files in my repo.

The wiki too should be referred.

@joe: Would you like to correct the commented out line in session.inc (Post 4 in this thread) to match tm/George's construct?

@John Spikowski: Found your project interesting - recalled fond '80s memories of the ZX81 BASIC on the TV and tape recorder!

In what way do you envisage your project being used with FrontAccounting?
Perhaps it has a way of interacting with MySQL databases natively in both Linux and Windows (ODBC?).
Can it do some CRONs for FA like folder monitoring and emailing or bridging between POS / CRM applications and FA?
Can it's intermediate compiled code be decompiled back?

Hence gettext is compiled natively into the PHP in your XAMPP version.

When gettext is disabled in php.ini (especially needed in windows 5.3.0 to 5.3.5), php_gettext_support takes over and the .po files get parsed into .php files with same lang name containing the translated stings array.

The php_gettext library is not needed as it's functionality is already in the includes/lang/gettext.php file.

In this array based translation, some strings will not be present if the .po file has "\n" in the index of the string and it spans several lines. One such example in the .po file would be the string:

#: admin/backups.php:195
msgid ""
"You are about to restore database from backup file.\n"
"Do you want to continue?"
msgstr ""
"Zamierzasz odtworzyæ bazê danych z pliku.\n"
" Czy chcesz kontynuowaæ?"

It will get translated in the array if it is corrected to be:

#: admin/backups.php:195
msgid "You are about to restore database from backup file.\nDo you want to continue?"
msgstr "Zamierzasz odtworzyæ bazê danych z pliku.\n Czy chcesz kontynuowaæ?"

... Or create the folder it wants / expects ..... smile

On your popular hosting server, make sure the locale for the language you need is installed in the operating system on the host box by your sysadmin first.

The Tamil language translation is only a partial one (just over 11%) since most Tamil people can understand username instead of it's more complex translated equivalent (transliterated) "Payanar Payir" - பயனர் பெயர். Anyway, this string is in the translation .mo file.

You can use it as a basis for filling in the full .po file and compiling the .mo file and using it.

Most languages supported in FA have fewer translations than Tamil in my repo. You can compute the % translation of any language by parsing the .po files obtained from the decompiled .mo files for translated strings instead of relying on the full .po files in the repo.

Wonder why it is not being included in the official repo (@joe: wink ?) !
