I guess 80 should be sufficient for 99% of the cases. Except for the ones with two lines -> the now famous 1 Pound Ltd. with the addition "Niederlassung Deutschland" ;-)

Ok, I think we can extend the field in next release. So, what length would be enough for german market?

I thought so, I am just a bit careful doing this stuff because I will for sure forget it once I upgrade next time...

Yes, you should also change the last value in line 243 of customers.php from 40 to 100. NB the current value is inconsistent with database field length which is 60.

I (we) do have quite long customer names and due to legal requirements I can't really abbreviate them. Can I extend the field in the db without problems from 60 to say 100? Or will this cause issues somewhere else?

I see - need to change it in php as well. Won't do that. Any reasonable workaround?
