Some Keyboard shortcuts may work only from FireFox and possibly others only in MS IE.

I've tried the search but it's not same as a full popup window where you can freely scroll and do search in that window. I can't find F2 apart from the hint on to create new customer.

I guess you have not encountered Search options under company setup. Use them.
More over, there is popup window available under F2-F4 hot keys (as announced in page footer) - see Wiki description too.

I agree. Combo box for GL account, items, customer/supplier list in all modules should be on popup window with few more columns. It's easier to create/edit items and GL accounts if we have popup window.

The combo box (drop down list) is not a good design, if more than few thousand items combo box become slow or hang, because of this issue, Frontaccounting only suitable for very small company which inventory items not more than thousand.
