The reason being that we have 3 cashiers and all cash takings and payment should be reflected in their cash account separately.
Perhaps, this can be achieved if cash account or dimension is link to a user via user's setup. This will restrict a cashier to their working fund and easy daily balancing.

I think dimensions can be used in our case but need advice.
For example, we have an Event Committee. They have revenue and expenses. If I write all transactions in FA (debit, credit) but specify the dimension « Event Committee », in the end of the year can I be able to have reports about this specific dimension and their transactions?

]]>Then when I have an expense for a given property, I use the Dimension1 item for that property and use the Dimension 2 item to define the type of expense (utilities, repairs, etc.). Similarly when I have rent come in for a given property, I use Dimension 1 for that property and use Dimension 2 to call it Rent.
I am looking for a report that will list all of the transactions related to each property in summary form.
For example:
123 Main st
Rent $.00
Utilities $.00
456 Water St
Rent $.00
Utilities $.00
Does such a report exist in FA? If not, where to start the research to create my own?

But the question here why? I could not figure out why only sales and supplier accounts are supported.
1- You may have a scenario where we need to filter taxes per dimension (as a project)
2- You may have a scenario where we need to filter customer account per dimension (as a project)
While you are able to assign the dimensions if you do the transaction using Journal Entry, not the modules (Sales or Purchase)

Dr. GR/IR Clearing - There is a dimension
Cr. A/C payable - There is no dimension
For a customer invoice:
Dr. A/c Receivable (Customer) - There is no dimension
Cr. Sales - There is a dimension
The end result is, the trial balance/P&L/Balance sheet can not be segregated dimensionwise. In whole trial balance, there is a balance in Sales, COGS, inventory, A/c. Payable, A/c. receivable but in dimensions TB there is no value in the receivable and payable account. Need help in this. We want to have dimensions for both the payable and receivable accounts.

]]>For the company, I am able to create dimensions. When creating a dimension, it asks for the dimension reference number. As I experiment, it seems to want the following pattern (like the default number it inserts):
number followed by a slash / followed by a number (for example: 301/2019).
The second number is not a date since it will accept for example: 4023
I prefer not to have the slash and second number.
The first number cannot begin with a letter, and seemingly must be followed by the slash.
I don't need letters but am just trying to understand the reference pattern. So I don't understand how this forum post (https://frontaccounting.com/punbb/viewtopic.php?pid=4753#p4753) can say, "So when you created the dimension, you could have put MJ125 in the first reference field."
I don't see anywhere to edit/set the PATTERN of the dimension reference, nor any definition of acceptable dimension reference patterns in the wiki.
A couple of the forum answers tell people to read the wiki on dimensions, which I did. But I don't see anything relevant there. Again, if I'm missing something, please refer me.
I understand that dimension references apparently can be edited with phpmyadmin or similar tool, but am trying to avoid that and work from the GUI and consistently with how FA works natively.

]]>I'm a real estate broker with an IT Unix/Linux background. I recently installed FA and am evaluating it to see if I can use it for my production accounting needs. I am partial to open source software and try to use it wherever I can because of my background. I have less than a basic accounting knowledge and that's what I'm now trying to change. I do all my numbers on spreadsheets and I'm trying to transition to a proper accounting system.
I have my brokerage operations: sales, leasing and I also do property management. I've been looking for a bookkeeper who is willing to look at anything other than Quickbooks and that's been a challenge so far. I realize I'll have to do some or a lot of the work myself. One bookkeeper has told me to create 2 sets of books (or companies), one for the brokerage side and one for the property management side. I'm not sure if this is the way to do it but I'll try it.
I'm trying to understand how I can use dimensions and account tags to track income and expenses for each property I manage. Is this equivalent to the Quickbook "classes" for those of you who know Quickbooks? Do I create each property as a dimension, using its street address for the name, or do I use tags for this purpose? There will only be one income account and one expense account instead of creating one for each property so I'd like to be able to differentiate transactions for each property I manage. If someone can give me some basic guidance I'd really be grateful. Thank you in advance!
